January is almost over! Can you believe it? 2015 is here in full swing and the office will be getting busier from here on out. With all the traveling dates on the calendar, counselors to train, and new activities to plan, we have our hands full and we LOVE it! Even though the temperature is telling us that it’s still Winter, when I wake up in the morning I know camp will be here in the blink of an eye.
How are your resolutions coming this year? For me, I go back and forth about whether I like resolutions or not. On one hand, I know it is good to set goals and pursue them, but on the other hand it always seems to end in disappointment when my goals aren’t met. So, this year I decided to take a different approach and steer away from the traditional lose weight, eat healthy and save more money resolutions. Those are all great… don’t get me wrong. They are definitely still on my mind, but this year I have decided to make a resolution to do more of what makes me happy and enjoy where I am in life. There are always going to be future goals; a better job, a family, a bigger house or a nicer car, but I am afraid we all get so focused on looking ahead that we forget to appreciate the HERE and NOW.
I recently did something on my bucket list: I went skydiving! It has always been a dream but I never thought to make it a reality until a friend invited me to go with her. I didn’t have a reason to say no so I just went for it and I am so happy I did. It was an amazing experience that I will always remember.
So that is my resolution this year and what I challenge you all to do as well. Enjoy today and really live in it. Maybe pick a random day to check something off your bucket list. Or, do a simple act of kindness like pay for the person’s coffee behind you in Starbucks. I don’t want to miss the happiness today may bring because I am worried about tomorrow. Find something beautiful in everyday and really appreciate it. I can’t help but smile more when I do this. I hope your year is coming along great and I hope we can be a part of making your year a special one.
