You’ve made the decision to send your child to the Vista Bubble, the BEST decision you could make. But now you’re unsure of how long they should stay or which term will be the best fit for your child. You may have a son who is hesitant to try new things and thinks 2 weeks sounds like an eternity, while your daughter is ready to move to the Vista Bubble permanently (we don’t blame her!) but will settle for 4 weeks out of the summer. Every camper is different and we want to work with you to find the best fit for your child!
First, we encourage you to talk it over with your future camper and hear what they are most comfortable with. Sleepovers with friends or a few long weekends with family during the school-year can be great practice and a good predictor of how they’ll do away from home in the summer.
At Vista Camps, we have a few options to help give your child the very best camp experience. If you have a hesitant camper, we have discovered the best way to make them feel safe, secure, and confident about his/her summer in the Vista Bubble is to give them the option of staying the 1st half of a term, designated “A” on our Dates page. This could be one week during 1st or 3rd term or two-weeks during 2nd term. Nine times out of ten, the campers want to stay on for the 2nd half of the term, and if we have space, they can definitely do that.
First & Third A/B Term 1-week (ages 6-12)
- There are many campers who may need to start with a shorter term to ‘get their feet wet’ and we fully support their choice. Even during a short stay, they’ll get to experience so many wonderful activities in the Vista Bubble. They’ll be having so much fun they’ll barely notice the week has gone by!
First, Second & Third A/B Term 2-week (ages 6-16)
- We encourage at least a two week stay for any camper over the age of 10, as that will allow them to get the FULL camp experience. Daily activities, the Carnival, the Vista Dance, Superthon and War Canoe are all part of the 2 week experience.
Second Term 4-week (ages 7-16)
- There is a strong bond between our 4 week RV and SV campers. They experience a lot over the month at camp! Our campers who stay for 4 weeks have more time to learn and develop skills in the Vista Bubble, whether it’s in their favorite activity or general life skills learned at camp. They’ll meet more people and have a longer time to develop bonds, friendships, and memories. When you watch the 4-week campers compete in Superthon and War Canoe for their Tribes, after weeks of practices, you can see the intensity and emotion on their faces! It really does bond the campers for life!
No matter what term you and your child decide on, we are here to make sure they have the BEST summer ever at Vista Camps. If you have any other concerns about choosing a term, please give us a call and we can discuss all of the options in more detail.
